Today starts with a long vista of sandy beach and sand dunes.
The choice was a long stretch of walking on either sandy beaches or through sand dunes. I did a bit of each and both were quite hard going on the legs. It was good to get onto the coastal grasslands towards Godrevy Point. The whole headland is an Area of Outstanding Beauty(AONB).
There followed a long stretch of easier walking than the previous days along grassy cliff tops. Although the wind was blustery the weather was clear with bright blue skies.
My lunch stop for today was the pretty harbour of Portreath. It was now mid afternoon and the wind was too blustery to stop for long, so I gave up on the lunch and continued.
On leaving Portreath the SW Coast Path was closed due to cliff falls. I followed the diversion sign up the road to the MOD fence with no indication where to turn off. I ended up retracing my steps back and taking a well worn path before some concrete bunkers. This got me back onto the right path.
Followed the path along the cliff tops for some miles with the MOD fence on my right. Apparently there’s an Airfield there, but all I cold see was cabbage stalks. Is this what our highly trained fighting force go to war on? Must have some secret ingredient that sharpens their reactions.
We finally finish our walk by dropping down into another pretty coastal harbour of Porthtowan.
