Day 189 : Skipsea – Aldbrough

It’s a sad day today as the family are leaving me to go home. We have all enjoyed our little cottage at the Bay in Filey. It was warm, comfortable and had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable.

Day 187 : Hunmanby Sands – Flamborough

My wife walked down to the beach this morning to see me off on this bright cold sunny day. She walked a little way with me but will join me again later with my daughter. The wind had died down a bit compared to the last couple of days which suited me fine.

Day 186 : Scalby Mills – Hunmanby Sands

I’m feeling a bit stiff after yesterdays walk, but will be OK after getting into the rhythm of daily walking. I start at the sealife centre at Scalby Mills. There are quite a few people with binoculars and telescopes trained on the sea and rocks. I’m not sure what they can see.

Day 185 : Robin Hood’s Bay – Scalby Mills

Today is my first day back walking this year and I have my family with me for a few days which is quite exciting. I could not of picked a worse day to start because there were weather warnings given that storm Henry was going to hit Britain.

Day 184 : Runswick Bay – Robin Hood’s Bay

Runswick Bay is a place I have been to several times with its sweeping sandy bay and the cottages clinging to the cliff side. I love to come here to sketch but today I make the steep descent past the cottages to the beach to start my walk.

Day 183 : Saltburn – Runswick Bay

Saltburn is a charming Victorian seaside town where the industrialists and businessmen escaped the noise and grime of Teesside with their families. There is a funicular lift, that is two cars that counter balance each other with water, that take you down from the cliff to the seafront and pier. The pier is supported by iron legs which have withstood the force of the North Sea.

Day 182 : Middlesbrough – Saltburn

Day 181 : Hartlepool – Middlesbrough

Today I start off at Hartlepool in wet soggy weather which does not show the place in it’s best light. Hartlepool seems to be split in two, first the headland, the older part which shelter the docks and West Hartlepool with the shops and marina.

Day 180 : Seaham – Hartlepool

I have now crossed the border into the county of Durham. As I enter Seaham at the Terrace Green by the cenotaph are two long lines of wooden crosses and poppies laid out to remember those who have given their lives. What a lovely way to pay tribute to those who have died.
