Yesterday, I had a rest day and we had a drive around the coast of Coigach area with great views of the Summer Isles to Lochinver and the Assynt. It gives me a taste of what I have got to look forward to.

The centre of Lairde focuses around a road junction with a garage, general store and post office. Just before the junction is a pretty looking white painted Presbyterian church. The caravan site where we are staying sits along the beach front with outstanding views across Gruinard Bay. Beside the caravan park are the ruins and graveyard of Laide chapel.

Today my walk takes me to the most northerly end of Loch Ewe and down to Laird at Gruinard Bay where we are staying, so I should be able to walk right up to the front door of the caravan. First of all my brother-in-law drops me off where I finished yesterday a couple of miles south of Aultbea.

Yesterday I did not quite reach Redpoint so I walked back to where I finished yesterday. As I walk towards the sandy hued beach of Redpoint I pass remains of an old salmon fishing station where just the end stone walls of the building are still standing.

I am staying at the lovely Scottish Youth Hostel at Torridon which is in a fantastic location with the friendly Matt and Emily running the place. The place is popular amongst walkers, climbers and cyclists. When I arrived I could hear the stags barking as it were the rutting season. I was to hear plenty of this over the next few days.

I walk today from Kenmore on Loch Torridon along the coast and to another loch off loch Torridon called Loch Sheidaig. I get fantastic views of the Torridon range of mountains including Beinn Alligin, Liathach and Beinn Eighe
